For
these picturesque surroundings, get off at any spot
between Lonavala and Talegaon from where there are
a number of buses, which ply into the interior. Or
else you can get into a jeep and go deep into the
countryside. All the villagers are very helpful and
if you speak to them politely you could rent their
hut and they will cook for you, and you could put
up with them for either a day or longer.
If you are the trekking kind, mountains await your
enthusiasm. Practically virgin territory abounding
with natural wild life of the smaller kind can be
seen. Loads of trekkers visit these mountains all
of them and all keep the cardinal rule: Keep the area
clean.
Here many areas like Mulshi dam, Pawnaa Dam, and Shirioda
on the other side of the lake, await you with their
entire splendor. A host of animals and birds like
deer, Cormorants, Lapwings, River Tern, Partridges
and more are very often seen at hand. But please do
not attempt to touch them, as the villagers are very
skeptical of cityfolk anyway. The ground is a carpet
of lush green and a variety of flowers are seen at
close quarters.
Says Clement D'silva who has a spot of land tucked
away over looking the lake "Please do not leave
a mess around like a leading Advertising Agency of
Mumbai did after a shoot some time ago. Plastic bags
and bottles of all kinds were strewn around and the
villagers were up in arms. Remember that the villagers
and animals are move bare footed, and could get injured.
After which the wounded animal would probably turn
in to a maneater, which would spread chaos around
and that would put you squarely in the hot seat. After
which the villagers would probably not allow any one
else inside and you would deprive a lot of other tourists
of this mini paradise." |
