LAKE MENACE

THANE’S lakes are now giving residents of the city much reason for worry. The accumulating filth in the lakes and on their banks is unhygienic and poses many serious health issues for the people.

Speaking about the issue, Prakash Berde said, “The Jail Talao, opposite the RTO is one such lake where the water is bad. The ambe Gosawi lake. Where the Abhiruchi hotel was, is actually two lakes – the Ambe and the Gowsawi. The Ambe lake was filed with rubbush and solidified.”

He added, “We do have a drum at the Upvan lake, where all the puja material that is deposited is supposed to be taken away. We clean that twice a week or so but it is not enough. We will make sure that it will be cleaned within ten or 15 days.”

Berde has also requested people using the lake for their puja purposes to intimate the TMC so that special arrangements for the clean up can be made.
