so that when the animals are released, it is able
to carry on hunting as if it had never been damaged.
So
far about12 animals have been treated and released.
Any one wishing to release birds or any other animals
are requested to contact the forest officer. In case
any animal is not fit to be released it is kept in
permanent captivity. Which means that it will be looked
after for life by the National Park authorities and
be paid for by the Govt.
One Mr. Prabhu from Mira Road, who was forced in to
keeping some parrots as they entered his house, in
a sick condition. After nursing them back to health,
he did not know how to release them back to their
natural habitat. Now after 2 years when they came
to know that the National Park could do something,
they approached the Range Forest Officer, Yeoor, Mr.
Samir Deshpande who guided them correctly.
Mr. Prabhu was so happy that his birds will get good
treatment and will finally fly free in the forest,
that he beseeches all who want to release their birds
or animals to please do so correctly, thereby minimizing
the hurt caused.
First and foremost, the vet attached to the Sanjay
Gandhi National Park checks the birds or animals.
After this the birds are kept in a decent size cage
as they get acclimatized to new surroundings. The
owners are asked to please keep coming initially so
that if the former pets are in any sort of trauma
the owner's presence calms them.
Gradually these pets get used to new surroundings
and are slowly released in to natural habitats. Incase
these birds are incapable then they are kept in huge
cages of approx 200 sq. feet. Where they are properly
fed. The releasing is generally done after being certifying
ok by the vet and in presence of journalists and other
people who are called to witness the affair.
